Many leaders, managers and business consultants will be familiar with Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats. The intent of such tools is to assist people in making better decisions by applying structures and mental frameworks that encourage, stimulate and harness diverse thinking. Having studied and used the Six Hats and numerous other thinking tools over the years, it became apparent to me there was a gap in these thinking tools in relation to applying ethics as a discrete dimension in its own right. I decided to develop a 7th Orange Hat of Ethics, which can be used on its own or to supplement other thinking and decision making tools.
