Implementing PSIRF effectively:

This course is available in mixed formats. It is aimed at executive and non-executive directors and senior leaders responsible for overseeing the effective implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), and operational practitioners including service leads, patient safety experts, and patient safety partners. It is also suitable for trainee leaders and managers with an interest in patient safety.

Participants on this course will:

  1. Understand the opportunities and potential pitfalls of implementing PSIRF,

  2. Learn about the sources of information a good incident risk profile should contain,

  3. Recognise and overcome the barriers to implementing PSIRF effectively.

"PSIRF represents a significant shift in the way providers respond to patient safety incidents - promoting a more proportionate and effective response for learning and improvement" - Aidan Fowler, NHS England National Director of Patient Safety. PSIRF represents an opportunity for public, private and voluntary organisation delivering NHS services to look at and think about patient safety in a more proactive, nuanced and organisationally appropriate fashion. With the localised freedoms PSIRF creates for healthcare providers, also comes risk. As with all plans and strategies, the effective implementing of PSIRF requires a culturally attuned approach.
