Contrary to popular belief, silence, especially within an organisation, is seldom if ever golden. Yet organisations unwittingly suppress their most valuable asset and the greatest gift we as humans possess; our curiosity and ability to think, question, and reason. Overly compliant cultures stifle innovation and reward people for passivity while discouraging curiosity, candour, and independent acts of improvement. Such cultures are ultimately harmful to organisational performance.

Rigid hierarchies create cultures of learned helplessness in which employees become disengaged passive consumers of their employment experience, feeling powerless to shape or improve the work they do. Unquestioning compliance and conformity lead to closed cultures in which people conceal mistakes and opportunities for learning are missed. In organisations and departments providing critical services, this can be disastrous. I can work with you to:
