Building a wilfully aware organisation:

This course is available in mixed formats. It is aimed at senior leaders, including executive and non-executive directors, governors of NHS Foundation Trusts, heads of governance and engagement, service managers and staff implementing PSIRF. It is also suitable for ICS board members and senior and trainee leaders and managers with an interest in using feedback to inform continuous improvement.

Participants on this course will:

  1. Understand the contrasting states of wilful blindness and wilful awareness,

  2. Learn about the tangible benefits of developing a wilfully aware organisation,

  3. Understand multi-channel listening systems and be equipped to apply them in supporting the organisations journey toward wilful awareness.

Wilfully aware healthcare organisations are those that understand the value of truly knowing how they are perceived by their stakeholders, even when it makes them uncomfortable. They are better placed to provide safer higher quality care to their patients and service users and a better employment experience to their staff. They are informed organisations that understand the value of proactively seeking, listening to, and acting on feedback. Becoming increasingly wilfully aware enables boards, directors and managers in health and care to shift their focus from continual fire fighting and crisis response to proactive prediction and avoidance.
