Raising Hand

Using questions to shift perspective and create solutions:

This interactive course is available in mixed formats and is suitable for leaders and managers working at all levels in the public, private and voluntary sectors. It will also be of particular interest to NHS Foundation Trust Governors, Patient Safety Partners, Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Leads, newly promoted managers and trainee and aspiring leaders and managers.

Participants on this course will:

  1. Study examples to reveal the value of curiosity and questions,

  2. Learn some key question structures, and how and when to use them,

  3. Gain practical framing and questioning tools and techniques to shift perceptions and generate new approaches to solution development.

It's said curiosity is the mother of discovery. A well placed question can shift perspective irreversibly and a seemingly illogical curious thought can change how we think about an entire field of knowledge. Albert Einstein is said to have developed his ground breaking theories regarding the way we view space and time by asking the seemingly mad question, "what would happen if I rode a beam of light?" Isaac Newton is thought to have revealed gravity by asking why an apple fell to the ground but not the moon. Questions are powerful yet non-challenging tools which when used correctly can unlock seemingly stuck situations and lead to positive change.
